Un Arbitration Tribunal

Following an international arbitration tribunal's ruling against China on the South China Sea issue, India on Thursday said that it is not in favour of or against any country as it is a matter of law.

Even before a ruling, China may have lost by refusing to cooperate with a UN arbitration tribunal over its claim to virtually the entire strategic South China Sea. Yet Beijing seems prepared to absorb the cost to its reputation, confident that in terms of territory and resources, it won't lose a thing.

Government today asserted in Lok Sabha that the UN arbitration tribunal's order allowing a murder-accused Italian marine to return home from India pending its proceedings has "affirmed" the Supreme Court's authority and not questioned it.

China today brushed aside the UN tribunal arbitrating on the disputed South China Sea saying that it will not accept its verdict even as an official daily said US ships and aircraft in the area challenging Beijing's sovereignty will lead to its further militarisation.

Italy said Friday it had initiated international arbitration proceedings in the case of two of its marines facing trial in India for the 2012 killing of two fishermen.
