Greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere reached a record high in 2014 as the relentless fuelling of climate change makes the planet more dangerous for future generations, the World Meteorological Organization said today.

Governments picked South Korea's Hoesung Lee on Tuesday to head the UN panel of climate scientists, which guides policies for combating global warming and won a share of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

The United Nations will set up an independent board of scientists to review the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
