The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 24 "self-styled" institutes fake and found two more in violation of norms, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Monday.

US federal law enforcement agencies have arrested 90 more foreign students, mostly from India, taking the total number of students held so far to over 250 from a fake university set up by the authorities to check immigration fraud.

Students from India are advised to "exercise their due diligence" before seeking admission into American universities, the Indian Embassy has said, months after over 100 Indians landed in trouble for enrolling at a fake educational institution set up by US authorities to expose immigration fraud.
