Former IAS officer Arvind Kumar Sharma was named BJP candidate for the legislative council polls in Uttar Pradesh, a day after he joined the party, days after he opted for voluntary retirement from the service. Elections to 12 Legislative Council seats will take place on January 28.

After Fractured Poll Results, BJP To Back Hardliner In Assam's Bodoland

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, the results for which were declared on Saturday, threw up a fractured mandate with no party able to gather the winning figure. Deemed the "semi-final" before the Assam legislative polls of next year, it, however, saw the BJP making major inroads with nine seats won this time compared to one in 2015.
