US employers especially in the service sector may have to raise wages as the economy adjusts to a labor shortage, but that would be a "good thing" for workers, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Wednesday.

The Trump administration is proposing a hike in the H-1B visa application fee to increase funding for the expansion of an apprentice programme, which trains American youths in technology related activities, Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta told US lawmakers.

"The IBA has called the UFBU for a meeting in Mumbai on Aug 16 and the Chief Labour Commissioner has called us for a meeting in New Delhi on Aug 18," AIBEA General Secretary CH Venkatachalam said.

In the four-page letter, US Acting Labour Secretary identified the "four-tier wage structure" as one of the main reasons under which companies have been hiring foreign workers on H-1B visas on a low wage.

The executive order signed by Mr Trump earlier this week calls for a review of H-1B visas by the departments of State, Labour, Homeland Security and Justice.

"His allegations against us and Mani Ratnam are unfair. He sued us in Labour Court and the Union was ordered to pay him Rs one lakh which has already been settled," the secretary of The Lightmen Union was quoted as saying
