Eight US made Apache AH-64E attack helicopters joined the Indian Air Force (IAF) fleet today in Pathankot, in a major boost to India's combat capabilities. In 2015, India had signed a multi-billion dollar contract with Boeing for the supply of 22 of these choppers, widely considered the most advanced helicopters of their type in the world.

The Air Force has started training pilots to fly the CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopters that India has bought from the US, an official said today. The Air Force will induct 15 Chinook helicopters, apart from 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters made by Boeing.

The three Mi-35 Indian multi-role helicopters donated to Afghanistan have made a big difference in the offensive against militants in the war-torn country, the outgoing commander of US forces in Afghanistan has said.
