US memory chip firm Micron Technology said on Thursday it would invest up to $825 million (roughly Rs. 6,760 crore) in a new chip assembly and test facility in Gujarat, India, its first factory in the country.

Samsung Electronics topped the global smartphone memory chip market with a 46 percent share, according to a Strategy Analytics report, while SK Hynix held a 24 percent market share. Both South Korean giants hold a combined share of 70 percent. Meanwhile, the US firm Micron stands third with 15 percent market.
