In a bid to keep ISIS supporters out, the US has tightened its visa waiver programme for nationals of certain countries, making it harder for them to enter America if they had dual citizenship of Iran, Iraq, Sudan or Syria or visited one of them in the last five years.

In a rare slip, US President Barack Obama today wrongly said that Tashfeen Malik, the Pakistani woman accused of carrying out the grisly California massacre along with her husband, arrived in the US under a visa waiver programme, forcing the White House to issue a correction.

The White House announced changes to the US visa waiver programme on Monday so that security officials can more closely screen travellers from 38 countries allowed to enter the United States without obtaining visas before they travel.

The new programme will make it easier for Indian citizens to come to the US for various purposes.
