One of the pioneers of the Dravidian movement and prominent Tamil film producer R M Veerappan died due to age-related ailments at a corporate hospital here on Tuesday, a source at the hospital said.

Slain sandalwood smuggler Veerappan's daughter Vidhya Rani, family of late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran and film personalities were among those appointed to Tamil Nadu BJP's state executive committee and various cells on Wednesday.

A petition seeking to put on hold the release of Ram Gopal Varma's Killing Veerappan has been filed in Madras High Court. "The film is filled with false information and will create law and order problems in Tamil Nadu if allowed to release." The film stars Shivrajkumar, Parul Yadav, Yagna Shetty and Sandeep Bharadwaj

A Tamil film based on the life of notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan can be released, the Supreme Court said today.

A local court has restrained the producers of Tamil film 'Vana Yudham' and its Kannada version 'Attagasam', depicting the life of slain forest brigand Veerappan, from screening them without the approval of Tamil bi-weekly 'Nakheeran' editor Gopal about his role in them.

Late Veerappan's wife Muthulakshmi, has sought a ban on a film on her husband, alleging that it portrays her and Veerappan in bad light.
