The Madras High Court today permitted the widow of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan to conduct 'Annadanam' (feeding the poor) on his 11th death anniversary but made it clear that only the ritual and no other activity can be performed.

V Muthulakshmi, the wife of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, has requested the Tamil Nadu government to intervene and pass a resolution to stop the execution of four of his associates. President Pranab Mukherjee had rejected their mercy petitions last week.

The wife of notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan has urged the government that four associates of her husband, who are on death row in a landmine blast case, be spared from execution. The mercy petition of the four men has been rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee. They are expected to be executed in the next 14 days, sources have said.
