All vehicles entering Assam from Mizoram will be checked for "illicit drugs", the Assam government said in a notification Thursday, days after six men of the Assam Police were killed in an unprecedented gunfight between the two police forces.

Pressing for greater safety of children traveling in buses and other vehciles, Thane Regional Transport Officer Vikas Palkar said many schools and tranpsort operators in the district have failed to comply with safety rules laid by the Maharashtra government.
