Inaugurating the new Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu Vehicle Scrapping facility in Noida, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the National automobile scrappage policy will help in increasing automobile sales by 10 to 12 per cent.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says that the commitment made by the Prime Minister at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) is important to the government. He is confident that scrappage policy is one of the solutions to achieve this goal.

The drive to enforce this rule had started since last year butfrom January to October 2021, the transport department has impounded 664 vehicles which include over 10-year-old diesel and over 15-year-old petrol cars.

सरकार का कहना है कि इन प्रोत्साहनों का उद्देश्य वाहन मालिकों को अपने पुराने और प्रदूषण फैलाने वाले वाहनों को छोड़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है, जिनका रखरखाव महंगा और ईंधन की खपत ज़्यादा है.

The Ministry says that these incentives and disincentives combined are aimed at encouraging the vehicle owners to discard their old and polluting vehicles having higher maintenance and fuel consumption costs.

Under the vehicle scrappage policy, the government intends to set up 450 to 500 automated testing stations (ATS) and 60 to 70 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) across the country.
