Vehicles Star Rating In India

Union minister Nitin Gadkari today said the new car assessment program - Bharat NCAP, proposes a mechanism wherein automobiles in India shall be accorded 'Star Ratings' based upon their performance in crash tests.

Michelin has become the first tyre brand in the passenger vehicle segment in India to be accredited with the newly introduced star labeling program by the Government of India, receiving a 5-star rating for its Michelin Latitude Sport 3 and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.

Data released by global safey watchdog Global NCAP certifies three made-in-India models have a 5 Star safety rating where seven models get a 4 Star safety rating.

The prestigious award becomes an achievement, more so with the Mahindra XUV300 winning it as it's still a sub-four metre vehicle and comes under the compact cars / SUV category, giving us hopes that majority of made in India cars can become safer.

David Ward, President, Global NCAP and Max Mosley, former chairman, Global NCAP presented the award to Nitin Gadkari and Abhay Damle, joint secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The Mahindra Marazzo has become the first-ever made in India MPV or multi-purpose vehicle to get a 4 star crash safety rating from Global NCAP. The Marazzo has also become the second highest car by overall score amongst all 32 India made car models tested so far by Global NCAP since 2013.
