For the third consecutive day, several low lying pockets of Velacherry in Chennai are without power. The floods in Chennai have turned the office of Pariti Bharati and Akaash Chaturvedi, both techies, into a refuge for their friends and colleagues. Ever since their localities have become swamps with waist-deep water, they don't stay much at home.

Drink-driving wiped out an entire family in Chennai on Monday. The victims - a man and two women - were ragpickers sleeping on a pavement in the city's Velacherry area, an IT hub. The vehicle was a call taxi contracted by a local call centre. The driver, off duty, had been out on a joy ride with two friends. All three were drunk.
