Viacom18 has bagged the media rights to the Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) for the next five years, according to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. The company acquired the rights to the WIPL for the 2023-27 cycle for a whopping Rs 951 crore, and the first match is scheduled to take place in March.

Viacom has pledged INR 951 crore, and INR 7.09 crore for each match, for the next five years.

Reliance Industries-backed Viacom18 said its platforms have become one of the largest sporting destinations in India after IPL digital rights.

Disney Star held on to the TV rights in India while Reliance's Viacom18 won the digital rights, which fetched more money for the board than the TV rights. The total amount for brand IPL stands at Rs48,390 crore according to Shah's tweet.

The big headline from this IPL media rights auction was the emergence of digital as the big brother, as it trumped the amount that was paid for the TV rights.
