Vile Parle Station

A 57-year-old chief loco inspector of Western Railways committed suicide by lying on a railway track in front of an approaching local train at Vile Parle station in Mumbai, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said on Tuesday.

A day after seven coaches of a local train derailed between Andheri and Vile Parle stations in Mumbai, suburban local services on all the four up and down lines on the Western Railway route resumed today, bringing relief to thousands of harried commuters.

Students from Mumbai's Wilson College have adopted a railway station to do their bit for the national mission for cleanliness.

Around 10.00 pm on Saturday a 20-year-old man walked into the Vile Parle police station, clothes soaked in blood and a large knife in one hand. As he entered the police station the youth screamed belligerently, "I have killed a man, which I don't regret. Arrest me."
