British mobile phone giant Vodafone on Tuesday said it planned to axe 11,000 jobs over the next three years as new chief executive Margherita Della Valle seeks a "simpler" organisation. "Our performance has not been good enough," Della Valle said alongside news of flat annual revenue at the group.

Vodafone said the bosses of its four biggest European markets would report directly to chief Vittorio Colao to speed up decision making in fast-changing markets, after it decided to scrap its European regional management structure.

Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) today announced appointment of former Vodafone chief executive officer (CEO) Michel Combes as its new CEO for Europe region. "Alcatel-Lucent's board of directors has today approved the appointment of Mr Combes as the company's new CEO, effective April 1, 2013," ALU said in a statement.
