8 Dead, 30 Injured After Bus Plunges Into Canal In Andhra Pradesh

A private bus fell off a bridge into a canal in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh early this morning, killing eight people and leaving over 30 injured. The driver was allegedly drowsy and lost control of the Volvo bus, which was heading from Bhubaneswar to Hyderabad.

The bus, belonging to a travel company, was completely gutted. Volvo Buses, the manufacturer firm, said it was an isolated instance and it was waiting for further details to emerge.

Volvo has reiterated that the fire on board its bus in Mahbubnagar District in Andhra Pradesh on October 30 last year that killed 45 people was not the result of faulty vehicle design.

45 killed as speeding bus headed to Hyderabad catches fire

It was a little after 5 am when the bus headed to Hyderabad from Bangalore hit a barrier on the highway. The passengers on board were sleeping when the Volvo went up in flames, reportedly because the fuel tank exploded. 45 people were killed, many of them burnt alive. Among them were a baby and a seven-year-old girl.
