Green Tribunal Declares Rs 5,000 Fine For Dumping Waste In Aravallis

Any individual spotted throwing waste or muck in the Aravalli forest would now have to pay a penalty of Rs 5000, the National Green Tribunal or NGT has said while slamming authorities over reckless dumping of industrial waste and construction debris in the green area.

Considering the fragile environment and vulnerability of flora and fauna in the area surrounding Teesta Stage-V, the Forest Department had directed NHPC to pay a fine of a few crores for rehabilitation purposes, which was later reduced to approximately Rs 75 lakh in an out-of-court settlement.
