Rain lashed several parts of southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, on Sunday, dampening the festive spirit on Saptami or the first of the four-day Durga Puja festivities.

The Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar told that the states where the weather conditions are hotter have not declared any summer vacation till now.

Several parts of Kolkata reported waterlogging today following heavy rain in the city. Traffic congestion was also reported in parts of the city today.

Cyclone Yaas is likely to intensify into severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and will bring winds of speed of up to 180 kms per hour when it makes landfall on West Bengal and Odisha coasts on Wednesday, the weather department said today.
