Traditional Chinese medicine risks extinction if there is a push by the government to completely replace the wild animal parts now used with substitutes, a senior Chinese lawmaker said on Saturday.

Chinese Police have arrested five suspects involved in poaching of endangered wild animals, including two snow leopards.

Terming poaching of wild animals as a serious issue, government today said wildlife in the country is "under stress" with illegal trade in South East Asia alone to the tune of USD 60 billion.
