Telecom subscriber base rose marginally to 1,170.38 million in December 2022 on account of an increase in fixed line connections, according to official data. The total subscriber base in the country was at 1,170.17 million in November last year.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio’s net subscriber addition has increased the overall telecom user base to over 116.69 crore in March 2022, said TRAI in its monthly report. The new customer additions included both mobile telephones as well as fixed line services segment in March.

BSNL’s wired broadband subscriber base reduced from 7.8 million in September to 7.75 million in October. This means a loss of 50,000 subscribers was seen in one month. Airtel took the second place in the wired broadband space with 2.67 million subscribers, followed by Atria Convergence with 1.74 million subscribers.

Reliance Jio saw considerable gains in 2019. However, Vodafone Idea and Airtel lost millions of wireless subscribers. Vodafone Idea lost 86.13 million subscribers in 2019 and Airtel lost 12.96 million subscribers. Vodafone Idea subscriber base declined from 418.75 million subscribers in December 2018 to 332.61 million subscribers in December 2019.
