The government on Thursday announced to increase minimum wage rates by revising the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), in a bid to help workers cope with the rising cost of living.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday announced Rs 18,066 in minimum wage for unskilled, Rs 19,929 for semi-skilled, and Rs 21,917 for skilled workers in the unorganised sector, ahead of the upcoming festival season.

The march was organised by the CPM and besides farmers, many workers in the unorganised sector, such as ASHA workers, and members of tribal communities participated in it.

Four crore workers have registered themselves with e-shram portal, with maximum registrations from Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh

E-Shram portal: Workers of all segments can register themselves on the portal with the help of their Aadhar number as well as bank account details.

Unorganised sector workers aged between 18 and 59 years can subscribe to the AABY scheme, which offers a cover of Rs 30,000, according to LIC. Eligible applicants can subscribed to the Aam Aadmi Bima scheme at an annual premium of Rs 200 per member, 50 per cent of which is subsidised from the Social Security Fund, the insurance major adds.

The scheme was announced in the Interim Budget and is targeted at unorganised sector workers with monthly income of up to Rs 15,000.
