P Chidambaram said that to even make a comparison between Pawan Khera's case and that of Rahul Gandhi's is absurd. He emphasised that the authorities were attempting to detain Pawan Khera, to deprive him of his liberties and so the Congress could approach the Supreme Court. In Rahul Gandhi's case, the only court they could approach to file an appeal would be the district court. Mr Chidambaram went on to question as to why, in the case of erstwhile disqualified Lakshadweep MP when his conviction was stayed two months back by the Kerala High Court, had his disqualification not yet been withdrawn when the Lok Sabha panel could disqualify Rahul Gandhi within a day of his conviction.
