PM Modi and the Niti Aayog have been pushing the case for simultaneous elections to be held all across the country in a bid to overhaul the electoral system and to save the huge amount of money that is spent in conducting elections. According to the Niti Aayog, on an average there are five to seven elections annually which leads to disruption of governance and loss of a great amount of time and money. While many agree that conducting Lok Sabha and State assembly elections simultaneously will be a good idea, no clear road map as to how this concept should be implemented has come up. The consultations conducted by Law Commission this past week saw parties divided over the issue. On The Big Fight, we debate whether 'One nation, one poll' is indeed a good idea and whether it will prove to be PM Modi's political masterstroke for 2019.
