After over six years the government has come up with a proposed law the Whistleblower Protection Act, which it intends to introduce in the Cabinet. Though the Bill accepts 23 of the 30 recommendations made by the Standing Committee of Law and Justice, all public servants will not come under the ambit of the bill. In fact judges and ministers are excluded. Also, according to the government's current proposal, the whistleblower will have to identify himself or herself. This contentious proposal leads one to ask - does this Whistleblowers Bill have enough teeth?
