With the ambitious direct cash transfer scheme set for a roll out from January 1, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed all the ministries concerned to work in close coordination to help the poor open bank accounts smoothly. The Prime Minister held a meeting of the cash transfer committee to review the progress of the scheme which aims to check pilferage and corruption. Pilot projects have been carried out already in some parts of India. Here's a ground report from Rajasthan to which shows how these have worked and what are the lessons to be learnt.
