31st of August 2021 will go down in history as the day the US completely withdrew from Afghanistan, ending a 20-year war, one that started and ended with the Taliban in power, despite billions of dollars spent trying to rebuild the country. Celebratory gunfire rang out in the Afghan capital Kabul in the early hours and elated Taliban officials hailed the event as a watershed moment. Also, India today, for the first time, admitted to have held diplomatic talks with the Taliban which has taken control of Afghanistan in the past few days, following the withdrawal of US forces from there. Is India compelled to engage with the Taliban?
