With assembly elections in Karnataka less than two months away, the Congress government in Karnataka decided to recommend to the centre to grant religious minority status to Lingayats. A cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today, after hours of discussion, decided to accept the report of a committee headed by a retired high court judge.
