Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK, an ally of the BJP, has now joined the bandwagon demanding suspension of NEET. Authorities say the state government has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding consent to admission to medical courses on the basis of Class 12 marks. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan told NDTV these are not the right conditions for exams as the state is recording around 6,000 coronavirus cases every day. For close to a decade, the Tamil Nadu government had abolished entrance exams for medical admission.
