The Uttar Pradesh government today started procuring wheat crop from farmers at a government mandated rate of Rs 19.25 per kg . The government says that despite a stringent lockdown in place farmers will have no problems in selling their grain either to the 5,500 government procurement centres or to private players who have been told they cannot buy grain at rates that are lesser than the government's set price . Day 1 was lukewarm though - only some farmers turned up to sell their grain. The government says activity will pick up in the next 3-4 days.
