In an observation made by a Supreme Court bench, Justice DY Chandrachud said people go to cinema halls for undiluted entertainment and that one doesn't have to stand up for the national anthem in a theatre to show patriotism. "Why should we wear our patriotism on your sleeves," he questioned. The Attorney General submitted that playing and standing up for the national anthem before a movie acted as an unifying force in a country as diverse as India. He also added that respecting the national anthem is a fundamental duty. The big question - is the respect to the anthem a fundamental duty and is this the way to express it?
