Giving Voice to India is a unique initiative to raise the standard of Western Classical singing by adding opera repertoire to India. Patricia Rozario, a Mumbai-born British soprano who founded the initiative in 2009, takes a first solitary step in bringing the opera culture into India through staged performances of "Didos and Aeneaus", an opera recounting the love of Dido, the queen of Carthage for the Trojan hero. "I have always kept in touch with India because my parents live here. My interest was to raise the standard of the singing and also to take our Indian singers forward on the international stage. And it is beginning to make its mark."
