The 10th International Documentary short film festival of Kerala was inaugurated on Friday amid a controversy. Three films -- one on Kashmir, one on the suicide of Hyderabad scholar Rohith Vemula and another on the trouble in Delhi's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University have not been allowed to be screened by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. In this week's Art Matters, we look at this ban, the sense of deja vu it evokes for filmmakers and how Vikalp,a network of documentary filmmakers resisting documentary censorship came into being more than a decade ago.
