Dr. Hema Divakar, Technical Advisor, Ministry of Maternal Health and Family Welfare, Medical Director Divakars Speciality Hospital and Past President, Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), highlighted the crucial role of ASHA workers in ensuring that the goal of Banega Swasth India is achieved. She said that ASHAs ensure the health of mothers during pregnancy, so that they can produce healthy babies and only that way can the nation become healthy. Dr Divakar also highlighted the need to expand the network of ASHA workers as there are 30 million deliveries in a year and there are currently just one million ASHA Workers.
