Three Army personnel will be awarded the Ashok Chakra this year on the occasion of Republic Day, this is the highest peacetime award for gallantry.The Ashok Chakra is awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. It is the peace time equivalent to the Param Vir Chakra and is awarded for the ''most conspicuous bravery.''
