In a bid to help to the rural economy in West Bengal that's reeling from the coronavirus lockdown, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that farmers could also sell flowers and betel leaves. Vegetables are being ferried across Bengal. Farmers in Nadia, East Midnapore, Howrah and other districts would be allowed to take their produce to Asia's biggest flower market at Mullik Ghat in Kolkata. In normal times, flowers worth Rs 1 crore are bought and sold at the market every day.
