Assam: Bodoland Council Polls Today
In Assam, where the second phase of the two-phased election to the Bodoland Territorial Council is being held today, built up as the semi-finals to the 2021 Assam assembly polls, today's polls are crucial for the BJP. The first phase of the polls were held on December 7. It saw over 75 per cent turnout. While the BJP is taking on its own ally, the BPF, the Congress is testing its alliance with Badaruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF. This is the first election in the Bodoland Territorial Region or the BTR that that has come a long way from its violent battle for statehood, resolved in January this year with a comprehensive peace accord with the militant group NDFB.
