After last month's controversial crackdown against child marriages, the Asam government has made special budgetary allocations for its mission to prevent child marriages in the state. The budget was tabled on Thursday. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government had "tried to ensure that the crackdown against child marriage in Assam last month was not communal", rather equal proportion of Muslims and Hindus was arrested in child marriage. He also said that every six-month such crackdown would take place. The state government is aiming to eradicate child marriage by 2026.
