"They have a right to reapply - those people who have not found their names on the list that we have published today," said the man at the centre of the gigantic exercise of preparing Assam's citizens' list. Speaking to NDTV, Prateek Hajela, coordinator of Assam's National Register of Citizens, tried to allay the fears of 40 lakh people left out of the draft list. He told NDTV, "We will give them all opportunity to prove their credentials for inclusion in NRC". He also said that the exercise is "not merely documentation" but people can "produce other types of evidence". "We are taking oral evidence of blood relatives also," he said.
