Celebrating small wins, sidelining big losses, seemed to be Congress’ ‘mantra’ in 2024. Even as Congress-led Mahavikas Aghadi registered one of the most devastating defeats in the state, and possibly in the history of alliances in state elections in general, the party had reasons to celebrate with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra winning Wayanad LS seat in a landslide win. However, that begs the question, can a national party afford to keep losing the big elections and compensate with a couple of bypolls? Did the Congress party not learn anything from the Haryana Elections loss or is it refusing to learn and change?
