A stampede broke out outside Chennai's Rajaji Hall where crowds surged on Wednesday to pay their respects to DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, who died yesterday. Many are believed to be injured in the stampede that erupted after the police used batons to control the mass of supporters. Karunanidhi will be buried at Marina Beach, a court decided after overnight drama over the ruling AIADMK's refusal to allow the five-time chief minister's burial at the beachfront which has memorials to three other former chief ministers including J Jayalalithaa. Karunanidhi, who dominated the state's politics for six decades along with arch-rivals MG Ramachandran and later, Jayalalithaa, died after 11 days in hospital.
