Azam Khan vs Jaya Prada: How Rampur Is Deciding Upon Its Representative
It's a battle of titans in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur where friends-turned-foes have fought a hard election this year. While on one hand there's actor-turned-politician and BJP candidate Jaya Prada, on the other there's her bete noire Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party. Azam Khan had helped Jaya Prada win the 2004 election in Rampur, pulling off quite a feat in a Congress stronghold. But voters in the UP constituency feel that Jaya Prada is "not a factor" in Rampur anymore, even as they stand divided about Azam Khan's might as their representative. While some voters think Azam Khan truly helped develop Rampur and kept the constituency integrated, some feel his development projects have come after a "heavy price" paid by the poor.
