Back To School For Hadiya: Victory Of Choice?
It was a day when a 25-year-old educated woman Hadiya appeared in Supreme Court to repeat what she's been saying for a long time - she converted to Islam of her own free will and then married of her own free will. The top court, after hearing her, has agreed to release her from her parents custody. However, they stopped short of letting her be with her husband. The court said that that she should go back to her nursing academy in Salem of Tamil Nadu and that the government would pay for her and give her security. While her husband Shafin Jahan who had first appealed this case in Supreme Court called this is a win and said that he was now free to meet her, we debate if it is really a victory for free will. The Supreme Court will decide on the legality of her marriage which she says was of her own volition in January.
