On the day of his retirement, Justice Jasti Chelameswar tells NDTV that bargaining does happen among collegium judges on appointment of judges and that it's nothing new. He said he tried his best not to allow this to happen. On Justice KM Joseph, the retired judge said his views on Justice Joseph are on record, and declined to say if the collegium had a sort of consensus on such matters. On government interference in the judiciary, he said, "Occasionally, subtle efforts are made... Attempts are always made, not only in India, but every country, it happens."
