Bay of Bengal threatens to wipe off Orissa villages
Chilika lagoon in Orissa is under threat from the Bay of Bengal, which has turned extremely violent in the last several months. Two weeks ago, a vicious tide that inundated several villages created a 400 metre wide new mouth, which is dangerously close to the artificial mouth dug by the Chilika Development Authority eight years ago to tackle the falling salinity level in the lagoon.
