The Election Commission's announcement that the West Bengal polls will be held in eight phases from March 27 to April 29 has raised eyebrows. It is to be noted that the entire 2019 General Election was done in seven phases. While the Election Commission declined to say whether the voting had been stretched out over concerns raised by the BJP, which rules the Centre, but suggested that security played a role in the decision. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has not held back and questioned. 'Who benefits from this?' she has asked.
