"The US and the Biden administration is completely committed to keeping open the diplomatic track and dialogue with Blinken. The Russian administration is massing an invasion force and is ratcheting up the tension, minute by minute. It is difficult to have a diplomatic dialogue and a reasonable discussion towards a solution when you have a gun to your head," says Ian Kelly, a career diplomat who served as Ambassador to Georgia.
