Jangal Mahal, one of the most development-scarce tribal belts of India, in Uttar Pradesh's backward Mirzapur district. On the face of it, the area boasts of a picturesque forest and shares its borders with Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. But presence of Naxals, brings with it complexities of underdevelopment, hunger, poverty and strife which is reflected in its abysmal maternal health record.
