We will honour the alliance with Janata Dal (United), said BJP's star campaigner Manoj Tiwari, who campaigned extensively in Bihar in the run up to the three-phase elections. He indicated that even though the BJP is emerging as the single-largest party in state, JD(U) president Nitish Kumar would remain the chief minister. He dismissed suggestions that the BJP – once less influential than JD(U) in Bihar – would call the shots, saying the "older brother" always retains his stature, even when he underperforms. He, however, went on to add that at the national level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held that position.
